Week 1

Sapiro vs Ford 

A fascinating true story about a landmark libel lawsuit in the 1920s brought by Aaron Sapiro, a young Jewish lawyer, against Henry Ford, industrialist, regarding antisemitic articles in Ford’s, newspaper, the Dearborn Independent. A David and Goliath moment in American legal history that focused on the struggle to understand the difference between free speech and hate speech. (USA 2026 English 68 min. Documentary)

You Had to Be There

 

The film centers on a 1972 production of the stage musical Godspell, which premiered at the Toronto 

International 
Festival from which many of the cast members would go on to have a transformative impact on both

Canadian and American comedy in projects such as Second City, and Saturday Night Live. Martin Short, Gilda

Radner, Eugene Levy, and Dave Thomas to name a few, with Paul Shaffer serving as musical director. With Judd

Week 3  

The Road Between Us 

The story of retired Israeli General Noam Tibon, along with his wife Gali, who saved their son and his family at their

 

kibbutz during the Oct 7 attacks. A universal theme of mission and parental courage that includes graphic security

camera footage from the kibbutz as well as publicly available Hamas bodycam footage.

Week 4
 

The Last Spy 

The thrilling biography of a 102-year-old CIA spymaster who escaped from Nazi Germany as a young Jewish refugee

 

to become the first CIA Station Chief in post-war Berlin, as well as an important player in later Cold War espionage.

Week 5

 

Once Upon My Mother 

An autobiographical story about the triumphant power of maternal love. Based on a novel by French lawyer and

broadcaster Roland Perez, who is born with a clubfoot and his Sephardic/ Moroccan Jewish mother’s determination to not let his disability prevent him from leading a full and successful life.

Week 6

The Sea

The story of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy, Khaled, who is determined to finally see the Mediterranean Sea, despite

being turned away for invalid travel documents at a military checkpoint, during a school trip. The winner of 5 awards

at the 2025 Ophir Awards in Jerusalem, including Best Picture.

Week 7

Neshoma

This documentary was inspired by true Jewish Amsterdam community testimonies about their rich and interconnected lives before WWII. Neshoma is the Hebrew/Yiddish word for soul or spirit.

Week 8

The Magic Lantern

A very personal story which begins with a letter received by Marijke Brown 30 years ago, revealing details about her rescue as an infant by the Dutch underground during the Holocaust. It sparks a very emotional journey for both her,

her filmmaker son (Eli) as they try to piece together a previously unknown and complicated history, as well as

her/their ultimate rescue.

Week 9

 

Among Neighbors

A Holocaust survivor and residents of Gniewoszow (Poland) discuss the complicated history of the town as well as

the interplay of love and hatred that shaped the lives of Polish and Jewish neighbors.
